Understand Where We Work

An estimated 1.1 billion people still lack access to safe drinking water, 2.6 billion don’t have adequate sanitation, and 1.8 million die every year from diseases associated with a lack of access to safe drinking water, inadequate sanitation and poor hygiene. Half the population of Indonesia does not have access to sanitation facilities, and the poor living in Jakarta are using up to 10% of their daily income just to pay for water.

The communities we work with were chosen based on assessment of their need. Examples of assessment criteria are the percent of residents with access to latrines, and the percent of residents with unsafe drinking water. Further criteria for us to work in a community is if it is safe for us to do so, if there is a desire from the community for us to work with them, and if there is no other organization working with them to address similar needs.

There are numerous communities that need water and sanitation assistance. Below are the communities we have selected to work with in Jakarta.
