2005

This year unfortunately started out with the Tsunami disaster. Following our foundation mission to particularly help the most vulnerable disenfranchised individuals and communities in Indonesia, Mindy joined OxfamGB to do relief work in Aceh from January to May 2005. Meanwhile, YE Water Program projects were suspended until her return to Jakarta, though useful networks, resources, and experiences were gained along the way.

We hired our first Public Health Promoter to implement the personal and environmental health & hygiene program, and a Public Health Engineer to implement appropriate household remedies for clean water. A range a preliminary projects were conducted, from developing water-distillers in collaboration with Contained Energy, to creating ceramic water filter prototypes with local potters. Our small team also started household-scale solid waste management projects; sorting of organic waste to make compost, and creating marketable products from waste.
