With different community events, VIP visits, and new activities in 2010, Yayasan Tirta Lestari continued to grow and reach. Even with the challenge of a 65% staff turnover in 2010, our team was able to achieve major targets. Changes in staff brought on slight changes to management and procedures, which took an investment of time in the short-term though was important for the long-term.

Sika’s sponsorship this year was again crucial to YTL growing. Not only in the practical sense of enabling us to purchase an addition vehicle for example, Sika also demonstrated their support with visits from Sika’s CEO, Mr. Ernst Bartschi, Commissioner, Dr. Walter Grüebler, and General Manager of Sika Indonesia, Mr. Charles Kidd. We were pleased Sika was able to join us for World Water Day, as well as other donors who joined our other annual events including Earth Day, Global Hand Washing With Soap Day, and World Toilet Day, which were each successful achievements this year as well.

In addition to our annual events, we held an additional Point-of-Use Water Treatment Soccer Cup event to involve heads-of-household in the awareness and use of alternative water disinfection methods. We also took our Kadres-taught children’s Public Health Promotion class from Teluk Gong to the zoo at the end of their lesson series, which was a memorable event for all. Beyond the visitors and events conducted, our projects gained momentum. We added of new learning activities and creative hygiene games to our PHP classes, conducted Training of Trainer for Kadres, dug Biopori holes to improve drainage, built two new latrines both equipped with rainwater collection systems, and more. Plus, our team gathered valuable community feedback through monitoring and evaluation, contributing to a solid community-based plan for the following year.
